Pedal Repair

Pedal Repair

This little pedal repair job came in today. The customer had noticed that the spring pressure had gone on one pedal and the cleat would not stay clipped in. They were decent pedals that were otherwise in perfect working order and had served him well, so he didn’t want to throw them away or go to the expense of replacing them. No problem, says I, leave them with me and I’ll see what I can do.

On examination it was obvious that one of the adjuster nuts had gone awol or broken. Probably not the kind of thing that you can buy as a part so the only option was to make one. Starting with a suitable thickness piece of steel, it was drilled and tapped with M4 thread same as the adjuster screw, then carefully machined down until it was approximately the same size as the one on the complete pedal. As the new part was only mild steel, it was decided that it would be best to harden it to give a longer life. 10 minutes later it was fitted to the pedal with a little threadlock to make sure it didn’t vibrate loose, job done and one happy customer. The pedal repair job was quick and cheap to do and saved him a lot of money.

Repairs, servicing and maintenance

Buying a bicycle is only the start of it – to keep it in peak condition you need to maintain it regularly.

Our service department is equipped to deal with all aspects of repair, service or maintenance; whether you just need a quick adjustment, a cable replaced, new brakes or tyres – the list is endless, but you can rest assured that all work carried out on your bicycle is not only very competitively priced, it is carried out by a cycle mechanic with over 40 years experience. We are also an authorised BOSCH service & repair centre.

All work is fully insured and you can choose how much you want to spend depending on the level of work required. Anything from a simple replacement of parts to a full-blown stripdown service is possible, and you can ask for a free estimate or quote before any work is carried out.

You will be advised by the mechanic as to likely repair charges, but if you decide that you cannot warrant spending too much on an old bicycle, why not have a look at our fully serviced second hand bicycles? You can sometimes buy one of these for less than the cost of extensive repairs on your own bike.

We try to keep turnaround times as quick as possible on repairs, but obviously this will depend on how many we have in at any one time. Our aim is to complete repairs within 2-3 days for minor or medium works, or within a week for bigger jobs. If it is a quick easy job we can very often do this while you wait.

Payment is accepted by cash or card (sorry, no cheques) and should be made on collection of your bicycle.
